THE HILLS ARE NEVER THE SAME TWICE
Spearfish Canyon has one of South Dakota’s most remarkable landscapes in the world. Its towering limestone walls, dense forests, flowing creek, and seasonal waterfalls create an ever-changing experience throughout the year, especially during the fall.
Spring runoff brings new energy to the waterfalls. Summer covers the canyon in brilliant green, full of native flowers. Autumn transforms the landscape with gold, orange, and red, while winter strips the Hills down to their quietest form.
Photographing these seasonal changes allows me to return to familiar places and see them differently each time. Light, weather, and time reshape the landscape, ensuring that no two visits. and no two photographs are ever quite the same.
My photographs explore both the iconic and intimate sides of the canyon... from Spearfish Falls, Roughlock Falls, to quiet stretches of water, autumn color, summer greens, and the details found along its trails.
Long exposures help transform moving water into something soft and timeless while preserving the rugged character surrounding it.
